Three truths about Gen Y
- They’re used to a fast pace. Gen Y grew up in a world of instant communication and 500 cable TV channels. Keep them busy, so they don’t have a chance to get bored.
- They’re unimpressed by titles. A Gen Y worker may feel perfectly comfortable calling your CEO with a question. You want to encourage their open approach, but remind them to keep you in the loop about what they’re doing.
- They’re collaborative. Your Generation Y employees are used to interacting with their friends in real time. You can use this to build teamwork, but don’t be afraid to draw boundaries when necessary.
