How LinkedIn Will Fire Up Your Career

“Don’t wait for your ship to come in: swim out to it.” – Anonymous

In her recent FORTUNE article, Jessi Hempel wrote, “Facebook is for fun. Tweets have a short shelf life”. If you’re serious about managing your career, the only social site that really matters is LinkedIn. In today’s job market an invitation to “join my professional network” has become more obligatory – and more useful – than swapping business cards and churning out resumes. More than 60 million members have logged on to create profiles, upload their employment history, and build connections with people they know. Visitors to the site have jumped 31% from last year to 17.6 million in February. (Members) include your customers. Your colleagues. Your competitors. Your boss.”

WOW! So is LinkedIn today’s new CareerFinder? Will it replace live, human recruiters (headhunters?) What about those of us who still like to exchange cards and download addresses into our Outlook calendars and cell phones?? (Or has that been replaced with the Bump app?)

Well, will it fire up YOUR career?

Thoughts? Have you used LinkedIn to search for new employment, or to locate candidates to interview and employ?
