Why in the world do we have family reunions?
I married into the Fite family and it seems that they are related to the legendary Wyatt Earp. (Pronounced Aarp.) Make no mistake by trying to convince otherwise.
Families upon families have branched out into separate pods and come together once a year in the VERY small town of Morgan Mills, Texas to re-tell and ere-live the tales of relatives long ago and long gone. All conversations pick up exactly where they leave off from the last time they’ve met. The same jokes are told and everyone laughs all the harder with each telling.
Babies are welcomed into the group with glee, elders are honored, joy is shared, and life is celebrated by remembering the past and being excited about the future. In-laws are not known as in-laws, but as in-loves.
Why in the world do we have family reunions? Because that is the way we build communities of love and support. Plus the vittles are generally homemade and delicious!
How many people can you name on your family tree? When is the last time you attended a family reunion? When is the last time you organized one yourself? Well, maybe it’s been way too long …..
Quote from the Earp family tree. “Like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one. Each of our lives will always be a special part of the other.”
